Strategy and Wargaming News – 16 November 2025 – Age of Wonders 4 Free To Play, Fields of History: The Great War, Finest Hour, And So Much More!

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock No Longer Available

Just yesterday, on the 15th of November, the 3D turn-based tactical space game, Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, was discontinued from Steam. No reason was put forward, but I assume it probably has to do with licensing. If you own the game, you need not worry, because you can still play it going forward.

Carthage: Bellum Punicum Will Have Thousands of Soldiers

One of the most exciting strategy and wargames to look forward to in 2026 is Carthage: Bellum Punicum. With an art style directly inspired by History Marche, the game will put players in charge of the legendary Carthaginian General Hannibal Barca, during his march against Rome. The new trailer shows how players will be able to take a closer look at the battles they’re fighting and see each individual soldier involved in the fighting. This is an intriguing-looking game, and it’s great to see a lot more games set in antiquity, but there’s one thing I have to see before making a decision on either to be excited for it or just feel “meh”, and that’s to look at a 30-minute slice of gameplay, or a full battle.

Age of Empires 4 Has a Roguelike Mode

You read that title right: Age of Empires 4, the historical RTS now has a roguelike mode (if you buy the Dynasties of the East DLC), and players are loving it. As described by the developers: “With this expansion comes The Crucible, an all-new single player roguelite RTS experience. Players face unpredictable enemy waves, randomized objectives, and unlockable upgrades. No two matches are the same, and every decision shapes the path forward”. Online, players are loving this new game, calling it “surprisingly very fun” and “that it’s honestly worth the price for the Crucible mode alone”. As someone who loves roguelikes, I think this might be the update I needed to go back and play Age of Empires 4 again, a game that I considered to be one of the best in this classic series.

Age of Wonder 4 Is Free To Try This Weekend

One of the best 4X games you can play in 2025 is now having a free weekend, running until Monday, November 17. Age of Wonders 4 is a beloved high-fantasy title that manages to cram the grand scale of 4X strategy games alongside a more tactical, RPG-like nature, with plenty of customization to the mix.

Wargame Design Studio Game of The Week

WDS Game of the week Kiev 43 Header Image

This week, we are going eastwards, with Panzer Campaigns: Kiev ’43. After the failure of the Kursk offensive, the Red Army took the initiative and battered the German defenders. Kiev ’43 tackles what happens after Kursk and Kharkov, as the German defenders hold on against the Soviet onslaught. You’ll be able to experience this massive campaign at the strategic and operational level across 59 scenarios (playable by both sides), on a monster map of 75,044 hexes, and using a true-to-life order of battle that covers all of the units that took part in the campaign, and some added in units for what-if hypothetical situations.
