Major Releases, The Future of Total War and Big Updates
I haven’t published a Strategy and Wargaming News update in the last week (because I was recovering from a wedding celebration and had the terrible idea of going to the gym right after waking up, so I couldn’t even lift my arms to type). Let’s do a quick wrap-up of everything that went on this past week, see what’s coming soon, and maybe even do some commentary on a couple of these subjects. I really need to start doing this in video format.
The Future Of Total War To Be Known In December
Total War is celebrating 25 years this year (it’s cool to know that I’m not much older than the franchise I grew up with!), and Creative Assembly recently announced that they’ll be revealing their plans for the future of the series in December. There’s very little information available outside of this; everything else is speculation, with players wishing for both historical and sci-fi games to be announced. So, I want to give my two cents on this and say that I would be happy with any of the following titles, in order of preference:
1 – Total War: Warhammer 40,000
2 – Total War: Star Wars
3 – Total War: Medieval 3
Anno 117: Pax Romana Out Soon
The most anticipated strategy city-builder of the year, Anno 117: Pax Romana from Ubisoft, is coming out soon, on November 13th, 2025. It’s promising to change the way players experience the series by adding a new layer of real-time strategy combat on land, a feature notably absent from Anno 1800. I have yet to try the Steam Fest demo—it’s been impossible to get to it with all the other games I’ve been covering—but I will, and I may even share my first impressions. However, based on all the player feedback I’ve been gathering, the sentiment towards the game is very positive, making it one of the most anticipated releases still to come in 2025.
Master of Command Is Shaping Strategy Gaming With New Twists
The new game from the Armchair Historian, Master of Command, is out tomorrow, on the 27th of October, and I profoundly wish that it finds success and an audience. It’s one of the most fun games I’ve played in 2025. Even though my review only netted it a 7.5 out of 10, and were it not for some annoying issues, the game could easily have gone up to an 8.5 due to the fun factor alone. It’s a mix of historical grand strategy and real-time strategy battles, paired with a roguelike, randomly generated campaign system that will keep things fresh and interesting long after you’ve seen everything the game has to offer.
“Their Finest Hour” Is Coming To Call To Arms – Ostfront
One of the best World War 2 and Real-Time Strategy games you can play in 2025, Call to Arms – Ostfront is set to receive another DLC, this time called ‘Their Finest Hour.’ It will zoom in on the British actions during the Second World War, featuring all kinds of missions that span from the first moments of the conflict to 1945. The campaign is going to have 16 missions, each lasting from 45 minutes to an hour, and they’ll feature both German and British POVs. As expected, all the new content will be ported over to the multiplayer aspect of the game, with new factions, units, and vehicles (500 new human models and 170 new vehicles) making an appearance in your multiplayer matches going forward, alongside 20 new maps when the DLC launches.
Super Mario Look-a-Like Super Fantasy Kingdom Out Now
Hooded Horse published Super Fantasy Game’s first title, Super Fantasy Kingdom, which just launched into Steam’s Early Access program and is currently sitting with a Very Positive Steam rating. The game is a roguelike city-builder where players must build and upgrade their kingdoms while fending off waves of demonic foes. While the core concept isn’t entirely novel, the gorgeous and colorful art style—very reminiscent of Super Mario—paired with a very light-on-the-wallet price tag of 15 bucks, certainly makes the case for a quick buy.
