In case you haven’t heard, XCOM 2 and its War of the Chosen DLC delivers the best turn-based strategy combat of all time, in my opinion. This game ranks, quite possibly, amongst my top 5 favorite games of all time, of any genre. From the acclaimed developers behind XCOM, Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a refreshingly unique turn-based tactical RPG that should stand as a prime candidate for your Steam Summer Sale 2025 buy. The amazing deckbuilder and turn-based combat mixed up with the character-driven storytelling and base management at the Abbey is just something that tingles my brain in the best way possible. Add to that the possibility of creating your own hero that can hold its own and find synergies with other well-known and iconic Marvel heroes like Iron Man, Wolverine, Doctor Strange, Captain America, Spider-Man, and more, each with their own customizable card decks and powerful abilities, to defeat Lilith’s demonic forces. What makes the game so special is not just its turn-based combat, but all of its aspects coming together to give you the sense that you’re leading a team of some of the best superheroes ever. Marvel’s Midnight Suns is a must-buy for both Marvel fans and strategy game enthusiasts seeking a vibrant and engaging new challenge. Also, the game in this sale is an obvious must-buy.

For a truly inventive and laugh-out-loud turn-based tactics game, look no further than Tactical Breach Wizards during the Steam Summer Sale 2025. Released in August 2024 to critical acclaim, including yours truly, this game flips the script by putting you in charge of a renegade team of “wizards in Kevlar” — essentially, special ops mages (yes, really) — as they unravel a bizarre, modern-day conspiracy that involves a wild, but funny plot worthy of a spy movie plot for kids of the 90s.
