Here’s the thing, you guys love lists. I’m not sure why you do, but you do. So I’m turning these news updates into a list, to see if they’re still worth doing weekly, or I might as well do them monthly. The reason is that lists get tens of thousands of views, and the Strategy and Wargaming News gets a couple hundred. So let’s try this one out and see how well it goes. The result is pretty much the same, it’s just a different format, with more news.
10 – Builders of Egypt Comes Out After Long Development
Builders of Egypt has been in development for quite some time, but it looks like the ancient-focused city-builder isn’t necessarily resonating with players, as it’s currently sitting only at a 47% review rating in Steam. Players’ main complaints are related to the fact that the game UI isn’t that great, there are some performance hiccups, and also that overall it just feels “underwhelming”, which was probably the word I saw the most.
9 – Armoured Commander II Still Getting Updates
Gunner, HEAT, PC! might be the most beautiful tank sim in the market as of 2025, but it cannot even come close to the amount of content Gregory Adam Scott’s magnum opus, Armored Commander II has. That’s because this one-man venture is still receiving free updates, 4 years after it came out on September 2021. On January 5th, the BT-42 was added as a playable vehicle in the Finnish Continuation War. In what other genre can you find gems like this?
8 – Total War Ditches Launcher
The Total War launcher, another one of those that came during that time where every single publisher needed to have one is finally going away for good, and thank God, because other than using it for mod management, it was broken half of the time.
7 – Gunner, HEAT, PC! Infantry Update
It has been quite a while since I mentioned Gunner, HEAT, PC! in here, mostly because I just forgot about it. But colour me surprised when it showed up on my Steam news feed as having introduced infantry in late November, and a new patch came out on Christmas day, improving on it. These virtual humans can be quite the treat to tanks as RPG-and-LAW-wielding menaces, but to other infantry formations on the battlefield, as they’ll not only target tanks but fight amongst themselves.
6 – Songs of Silence Out Now
This should be a Strategy and Wargaming News – Things that went under my radar edition. Songs of Silence is out too, and it’s quite the mix: a turn-based tactics that’s also a card game and an RPG, but its real-time battles take inspiration from auto-battler games like Teamfight Tactics and Auto Chess. Look, I don’t even know how to explain it, just watch the trailer! The game is quite the looker, though!
