Home of Wargamers Now Exclusive to Matrix Games, Big Changes Coming

The amout of people vising the website’s main page daily and not clicking on anything after is doing a great job of convincing me most of you come here looking for news at least once a day. Given this- and the amount of effort writing a single, massive piece every Friday is taking on my ability to write other stuff- I’m seriously considering ending the weekly news update in favor of having daily news. I’ll try that format from now on, in order to be more actual and do a weekly compilation of all things published for those that enjoy the seven-day in one format. This all paired up with my day-to-day work should make things easier to handle right now. Anyway, let me know what you think. Now, let’s get to it.

Matrix Games and Slitherine have been going hand in hand for quite a while now, with the latter arguably having a more mainstream presence than the first, which was more wargame-y.

In a post dated September 16th, Matrix announced that as a growing company, Matrix Games will further distance itself from its more famous brother. With that change, Matrix announced that the “Home of Wargamers tagline will only be used for Matrix Games”.

“We see this as a necessary step to better serve our community of hardcore fans while giving a better understanding of what we do to our more casual communities.” This renewed edition of the Home of Wargamers will be solely dedicated to more hardcore wargames and will last from the 10th of October to the 16th.

This is all a very fancy of saying that from now on Matrix will meddle exclusively with more hardcore wargaming titles and Slitherine will deal exclusively with more mainstream projects. This only comes as a confirmation of what was, for all intents and purposes, a business model already in place.

I’ll be anxiously expecting the lineup of a “whole load of events, streams, promos, activities, and interviews […]”, teased by Matrix. Here’s expecting this change will keep both companies happy and continuously growing because, in all honesty, they’re one of the few companies carrying the wargaming banner and have been at the forefront of some of the most innovative videogames in the genre of the last decade.
