The Most Anticipated Strategy and Wargames Releasing in 2022

Grand Strategy

Victoria 3

The memes are over! The beloved, 2010 classic that allowed players to guide their nations from the early 19th century into the dawn of the 20th is now back and ready for a third and glorious run. Dig deep into the engrossing political situation in one of the most complicated and rapidly-changing periods in world History in Victoria 3.

Terra Invicta

The creators of the infamous XCOM Long War mod took their talents elsewhere and decided it was time to have a go at their own game with what they have learned working in the mod for the first and second Earth-saver franchise. Terra Invicta is the name of this new endeavor and it’s going to be more in the vein of a grand-strategy game rather than the usual tactical scuffles typical to XCOM and XCOM 2. Players will head vastly different factions: from traitorous collaborators of the Servants, The profit-driven businesses of The Initiative, to The Resistance, an alliance of nations taking the fight against the alien invader.

Terra Invicta is taking inspiration from hard science fiction and scientific speculation to build a realistic simulation of Newtonian physics “where momentum and maneuver in 3D spaces are just as important as the firepower your ships carry”.

Terra Invicta is going to fully support mod support and is expected to be out during the second quarter of 2022.

Knights of Honor II: Sovereign

After missing its release date of 2021, hopefully, in a couple of months from now, I’ll be writing that Knights of Honor II: Sovereign is the spiritual successor of Total War: Medieval 2 we all deserve. Knights of Honor II describes itself as a Grand Strategy game with real-time gameplay battles while also introducing a couple of Crusader Kings mechanics like a Royal Court. This might sound too good to be true at a first glance but a deeper look into their developer diaries indicates that work is going smoothly and a lot of care and consideration is being put into things like religion, the royal court, and politics. The European map looks great but I’ve yet to see a small peek into the tactical battles.

Hopefully, Knights of Honor II: Sovereign will see the light of day sometime during the current year.

  1. Panzers on the Steppe is not worth to be here.
And I say this with sorrow, as it has a Mac version.
    – pricey
    – no AI
    – clunky UI/UX

    Refunded
