The Best FPS (First-Person Shooter) Games To Play In 2026

1 – ARMA 3

ARMA 3 still stands as a pinnacle of tactical first-person shooter gaming, long after its original released, all the way back in 2013. This mil-sim renowned for its realistic depiction of military combat and its neverending stream of high quality mods. As an FPS game, it places players into whatever role they wish, amidst a sprawling battlefield that extends for kilometers, where strategic decision-making and teamwork are paramount. The game’s emphasis on realism extends to its intricate weapon mechanics, detailed ballistics simulation, playercontroled movement, environmental factors such as weather, terrain and even sound, and the importance of combined-arms tactics.

The game’s thousands and thousands of mods basically means that if you can dream of a conflict, you can recreated it. With its combination of realism, depth, and modding capabilities, ARMA 3 is still my go-to game whenever I want to experiment with military tactics and equipament I read/saw somewhere else. It’s a unique game that offers an experimence unmatched by any other game in the first-person shooter scene.

If you never played ARMA 3, you own it to yourself to at least give it a try.

Good list but you should include Red Orchestra 2…that it still fills the servers is testament enough

  2. you evidently dont play much. Battlefield 2042 is #1., Medal of Honor Spearhead twice better play and maps over Allied Assault, Call of Duty 4 have great play, tons of maps abd servers, Cod Black ops 1 and 2 are awesome fps games. RED orchestra sucks FYI.

    1. Hello, Bob. Thanks for your comment. Let’s agree to disagree on that one!

This is just a matter of opinion, but you’re objectively wrong about 2042. That’s the worst game in the series.

  3. I absolutely fell in love with ‘Black’ back in the day, but with the much superior, (dare I say it?) Xbox version! Like you say, I had been playing video games since the binatone and atari days (born in 73) right through the specky and 64 days and into the mega drive/snes era! Even had an atari lynx and game gear the original “hand helds”! 🤣 But it still remember being totally blown away by Halo (not on the list…tut tut!) and Black. It was like taking part in a movie! I distinctly remember the level at night or late evening where you trudged through a forest, then attacked a farm! The explosions and devastation was mind blowing! Even now, I replayed it about 6 months back on a steam deck via emulation and was still utterly blown away by how they nailed the feel of the guns and the shear spectacle of it all (plus, it looks great on a small screen, as the lower resolution from the time has less impact!). What a great game, and I agree, it’s in my all time top 10 of FPS’s.
