7 – Stronghold: Definitive Edition

I’m not going to go on a long rant on how much I love Stronghold, and how the Definitive Edition is the best nostalgic trip that reminds me exactly why I fell in love with castle-building in the first place. The study did an incredible job updating the visuals and multiplayer while keeping the core mechanical loop perfectly intact, with better visuals. I have nothing else to add. 6 – Wargame Design Studio Sword & Siege

For the serious history purists and counter-moving wargamers, Wargame Design Studio launched Sword & Siege Crusades: Book I (and recently, Book II), introducing an incredibly dense, operational/tactical look at the First and Second Crusades. This hex-and-counter simulation ditches flashy 3D models for absolute historical fidelity, utilizing 40-meter hexes and 10-minute turns to model clashes across the Levant. It is an uncompromisingly realistic look at medieval warfare where victory is determined by terrain elevation, weapon frontage, and the brutal reality of supply lines, morale, and readiness.  The Crusades series of titles focuses mostly on sieges, but Age of Longbow is better for those of you who love classical, open-field battles.

Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition is the best Stronghold ever made. That’s it. Go get it.
