4 – Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector

It’s no secret that I believe this to be the definitive “modern” 40K turn-based strategy game. I said that in my first review of the game, and I’ll say it again, 5 years and 12 DLCs later. Battlesector features a brilliant momentum system that rewards aggressive play, allowing your units to perform extra actions if they keep the pressure on. The Blood Angels campaign is excellent, and the developers have continued to add new factions like the Necrons, Sisters of Battle, and Orks. It is a polished, visually stunning representation of the current tabletop era. I highly recommend you buy it if you don’t already have it, especially if you’re on the hunt for a turn-based strategy game with an amazing campaign. My only complaint is that they don’t create enough single-player campaigns for it.
3 – Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2
Space Marine was considered by many to be almost a cult classic. Beloved, certainly, but forgotten by the games industry. Well, in 2024, everything changed. The long-awaited sequel finally arrived in 2024 and exceeded almost every expectation. Space Marine 2 takes the visceral combat of the first game and dials it up to eleven, pitting you against thousands (ok, maybe it’s closer to hundreds, but I never had a minute of peace to be able to count them!) of Tyranids on screen at once. The scale is breathtaking, and the addition of three-player co-op for the campaign and operations mode makes it a must-play if you have friends to tag along. The game is also a high-budget title, with quite possibly the best graphics in any 40K game ever, and the closest thing we have ever come to living through a cinematic 40K movie. You know what? Why don’t we have a movie about Titus? I demand that!
2 – Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader

Owlcat Games took the massive, complex world of 40K and turned it into a sprawling CRPG that went on to become one of the most beloved games in the series. Not only that, it became one of the most beloved CRPGs ever made. Yes, really! You play as a Rogue Trader, a powerful individual with a literal license to explore the fringes of the galaxy. Your choices carry immense weight, and you can be a dogmatic servant of the Emperor or a heretic seeking dark power. The turn-based combat is deep, the writing is top-tier, and the sense of discovery is unmatched in the franchise. There are well over a hundred hours of content in the campaign itself. Like Boltgun and Mechanicus, which are getting new entries into their series, so is Rogue Trader, with Owncat Games currently developing Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, another party-based, story-driven cRPG where you take control of an Inquisitor.
