Introduction
What kind of Strategy and wargaming-focused website would I be if I just focused on penning sales articles about the Strategy part? Well, today I’m fixing that and putting together a top 12 list of the best wargames you can buy on the Steam Spring Sale 2026 right now! This list will have wargames for all kinds of players. Whether you’re just starting to get into wargaming or you’re the most seasoned of veterans, there will be a pick for you.
12 – Warplan

A World War 2 grand-strategy wargame set in the European Theatre, Warplan’s strengths are its accessibility factor, long campaigns, massive scale, and country-management mechanics. If you’re looking for a wargame that has you commanding the whole affair, and not just a squad or a division, Warplan might turn out to be a great fit.
11 – Combat Mission: Black Sea

If you’re looking for the most realistic wargame at the tactical level that isn’t set during World War 2, I’m afraid your only option is Combat Mission. Fortunately, Combat Mission is one of the best franchises in wargaming history, and Combat Mission: Black Sea takes players into a fictional war between Russia, Ukraine, and the United States. Every weapon system, bullet, and shell is simulated with unparalleled precision. Before you ask, yes, the game was released in 2017, five years before the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Don’t go into it expecting to see drone technology.
10 – Steel Division
From the creators of the Wargame series of titles and later WARNO, Steel Division is Eugen Systems’ foray into the Second World War, and it worked out amazingly well! Steel Division is a real-time tactics wargame that focuses on having a large pool of units and using them realistically across massive battlefields. Set during the Normandy campaign, the game places players in the hedgerow well of Normandy, a place where fields of fire and concealment dictate the conditions for victory.
9 – Radio General

Radio General is that kind of unique game you see once every blue moon. Instead of having you command troops from the frontline, or directing the war from a cabinet in a country’s capital, the game puts you in a tent, in your headquarters, far away enough from the enemy lines that you can’t visually see what’s going on, but not far enough that things become completely abstract and a numbers game. You command your troops by giving them orders via radio. You have to manually update the map with their reported positions and make decisions based on the limited information your troops pass down to you. Troops can be lost, ambushed, and destroyed, and you will be none the wiser unless you attempt to keep constant contact with them. For 3 bucks, this one is a no-brainer.
