Great Strategy Game News All Week, With Plenty More To Come
Each year that goes by, it seems like things are getting more and more intense in strategy and wargaming, quite the contrary of what used to be the case this time of the year when it came to game announcements. And the best part is that this isn’t over yet, because a major announcement for the Total War franchise is expected during The Game Awards. Let’s dive into this week with the announcement of Medieval 3, Slitherine Next coming in just a couple of days, a new Dawn of War 4 trailer that unveils a playable fan-favorite Primarch, and so much more.
The Future of Total War
The biggest news in strategy gaming has been the announcement that Total War: Medieval 3 development has started, and the game is currently in early pre-production, meaning that fans of the historical wing of Total War are still going to have to wait a couple of years before they get their hands on Medieval 3, but at least it’s happening.
A new game engine is also being developed, and in just a couple of days, during The Game Awards, a new Total War will be unveiled to the public. My chips are on Total War: Star Wars or Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

Dawn of War 4 Will Have Feature Lion El’Jonson
The new trailer for Dawn of War 4 has already garnered over 750,000 views, and no doubt it’s because, for once, the fan favorite Dark Angels are the stars of the show, and not the Ultramarines. Dawn of War 4 developer King Art Games has confirmed that the Dark Angels Primarch, Lion El’Jonson, is going to be playable at some point during the final chapters of the single player campaign. The team also confirmed that the Dark Angels are playable. No doubt Dawn of War 4 is pulling out the stops to make fans of the RTS series and Warhammer interested in the game, and so far, it seems to be working out great.
Slitherine Next Happening This Week

Slitherine still has something up its sleeve before the year comes to an end, and the upcoming Slitherine Next event is going to bring major news about some of its key projects and major updates for games like Panzer Corps 2, Starship Troopers: Terran Command, Broken Arrow, and more. You can watch it live on YouTube and Twitch on December 9th, 2025, 18:00 CET.
Ashes of Singularity 2 First Gameplay Trailer
Ashes of Singularity 2 is one of the real-time strategy titles I’m most excited for to play in 2026, and they have just recently released a new trailer showcasing the scale of the game. The developing team mentioned to me during our interview, and boy, would you look at the size of this game? It’s just massive.
RuneQuest: Warlords Out Next Week

The first game ever set during the high-fantasy RuneQuest universe is coming out on December 9th, and it’s being published by Slitherine and developed by Virtuos, using the same game engine that was used to create the excellent Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector. RuneQuest: Warlords is a turn-based strategy game where players will take control of a tribal champion of the Talastar and drive back the Chaos hordes from Dorastor. Unlike typical high-fantasy titles, which are mainly set in an alternate version of medieval European History, RuneQuest is set in an alternate version of the Bronze Age, with plenty of Greek, Celtic, and Mycenean influences.
