Strategy and Wargaming News – 5th October 2025- Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era Demo, Mechanicus 2 Demo, Tempest Rising, and So Much more!

What’s New In Strategy and Wargames?

With the Steam Autumn Sale on the way out, it’s time to check out what’s going on with Strategy and Wargames news. This week was marked by EA being bought up by a Saudi investment fund for a whopping 55 billion dollars, and the Game Pass jumping up 50 percent in price. While I don’t care all that much about the EA acquisition, as long as they don’t touch my beloved STAR WARS Zero Company, the Game Pass hike is just the beginning of gaming enshitification.

Endless Legend 2 Out In Steam’s Early Access Program

11 Years after the original Endless Legend came out, AMPLITUDE Studios’ new game has finally arrived in Steam’s Early Access and garnered a very positive reception, with fans responding very much in the same way I did when I previewed some time ago: Endless Legend 2 is very similar to the first, just with more polish and new things to play around with, chief amongst those being the terraforming system that can open new pathways and close off others, or completely throw off your plans. Very cool. Some of the negative feedback I have seen on the Steam reviews is related to the UI being a bit messy. Having played the game quite a bit during the demo, I don’t recall ever feeling the UI was that bad, but I’ll try to pull a scorecard review on this one.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era Demo

The much-anticipated new, mainline entry to the Heroes of Might and Magic franchise is going to have a demo coming soon, most likely, during the Steam Next Fest that starts on the 13th of October. I have played the demo build and was impressed by what’s on display, with Olden Era reminding me of what Heroes of Might and Magic played like when I was a kid, having my way with it on my Gameboy Color.

Play Mechanicus 2 Right Now

That’s right, the demo for another highly anticipated turn-based strategy game, Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus 2, is out already, and you can play it right now. Head on over to Steam and download it. If it’s anywhere near as good as the first entry, we are going to be eating well for the next year. MENACE is shaping up to be amazing, Heroes is awesome too, and we’re still looking forward to giving the next XCOM-to-be Star Wars Company a go. Add to that list Mechanicus 2, and 2026 is already made.

Mars Tactics Has a Release Window Trailer?

I have heard of teaser trailers, gameplay trailers, even cinematic trailers, but a release window trailer has to be a first. The turn-based strategy game set on the Red Planet, being published by strategy-gaming darling, Hooded Horse, is now set to come out in May 2026. A bit of a shame, because when I played the publicly available demo of Mars Tactics sometime back, I was eager to get my hands on it. But hey, I would rather have the game arrive later and be great, instead of having an undercooked experience right now.

Master of Command Has a Release Date

The Armchair Historian’s new gaming venture, Master of Command, has a release date, and the game is going to be released on October 27th, to participate in Steam Next Fest. A free demo is going to be available for all to try before pulling the trigger on its purchase. On a personal note, I am hopeful that Master of Command turns out to be something special, but I’m still wary about its roguelike-ish twist and how that’s going to gel with a more historically minded community. I love roguelike games, so that’s probably going to be right up my alley, and the fact that it’s taking on an often forgotten period in military history is also pretty damn exciting. Let’s wait and hope for the best!
