The Home of Wargamers just happened, and there’s plenty of new stuff to go over! I’m currently out of the office, on vacation (if you follow me on Patreon, you’ve been enjoying some great Travel Diaries going over the History of Spain). This is all to say that this one is going to be a bit on the shorter side, because I need to be in bed soon, so I can visit more stuff tomorrow!
Finally, A New Spanish Civil War Wargame!
The most exciting announcement of the livestream was the confirmation that War in Spain 1936-1939 is a thing and it’s going to be using a ” new Land-Sea-Air engine inspired by War in the Pacific – Admiral’s Edition. Gameplay and realism are improved by TRUE AI and a detailed Logistics systems”.
While a lot has been speculated as to how appropriate the use of this engine is for the war its going to be portraying, the fact that the game is a Spanish Civil War with this amount of detail and the team is also promising an unprecedented level of detail on its Order of Battle, down to the company level is enough to at least get me interested. This is just me, what do you think about it? Is it a good idea?
Flashpoint Campaigns: Cold War Is Bigger and Better
Flashpoint Campaigns, one of the best wargames you can buy in 2025, is going to become even bigger, and hopefully, even better, with Flashpoint Campaigns: Cold War. Just in case you’re a new guy here, which most likely is true given my audience has been growing exponentially and a lot of you come from the real-time strategy gaming crowd, then what makes Flashpoint Campaigns so special, aside from all the ridiculous level of detail, is it’s unique turn system where the commander with the most command and control of the battlefield can issue more orders, more frequent, to its troops, unlike the more usually rigid turn-based structure of other wargames.
Flashpoint Campaigns: Cold War is going to pack 100 scenarios, 10 campaigns, 10 nations, and some tutorials to help you understand the basics. Here’s my wishful thinking for the future: Flashpoint Campaigns: 21st Century.
WEGO World War II: Overlord Is Out On the Matrix Store
Fans of the Western Front, Normandy, and D-Day historians and gamers can, once more, recreate this epic struggle, this time on WEGO World War II: Overlord. I haven’t played the previous title, Stalingrad, so I won’t pretend that I did, but I did ask for a review key, and I want to use it as a testing ground for my Scorecard Review format. The game is described as catering to the grognard niche, and features a massive 135-turn campaign covering the whole D-Day operation.
Combat Mission: Cold War Gets a New Blimey British DLC
I have to admit, I was expecting to hear more about the actual future of the Combat Mission franchise, and maybe a glimpse into what the team has been working on, but alas, nothing of that came to pass.
However, we were assured by Marco that Combat Mission 3 is, in fact, happening and in active development. What we got instead is a new DLC for Combat Mission: Cold War titled British Army of the Rhine, which adds the British, Canadians, and Russian paratroopers to the base game. I guess this isn’t bad, but wake me up when Combat Mission 3 is out.
Modern Naval Warfare New Beta Coming Soon?
It feels like forever since Modern Naval Warfare was announced and impressed everyone so much it was quickly scooped-up by the military and we seldomly have heard things about it since. At least we know there’s a beta coming soon, and the game is looking very good.
Armored Brigade II Brings The Scandinavians To Fight
I wouldn’t say that a Scandinavia DLC is exactly what Armored Brigade II needed right now, and despite being an amazing game, there are a lot of other things I would like to see being done first, like the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, some of the Israeli wars, maybe even the Iran-Iraq War.
Something that steps away from the European theatre would be nice. But that’s what we are getting, a nd the new playable armies bring 250 new units, a new Swedish map, and a new linear campaign.
Shadow Empire Republica DLC
Shadow Empire, one of the most beloved 4X and wargames to ever grace our screens, is growing once more, with the announcement of the Shadow Empire: Republica DLC. This expansion, as the name might give away, will bring in new political systems based on parliaments, senates, and politburos, allowing the game’s factions to directly influence the players’ choices, as they must now make concessions to get their own laws approved.
Command: Modern Operations Tides of War DLC
Yup, C: MO is getting more love with a new DLC called Tides of War, one that sees China and its Asian counterparts engaging in armed conflicts on the South China Sea.
Rule The Waves 3: Expanded Battles Has a Release Date
A couple of weeks back, I wrote all about the Rule the Waves 3: Expanded Battles expansion, and now we finally have a date, and the DLC is coming out on February 24th, 2026.
The Matrix Sale Is Underway
I’m not going to be able to create a new list of recommendations in time for this sale, but you can check my 10 Best Strategy and Wargames to Buy On The Matrix Summer Sale 2025, which should help you a lot.
After all is said and done, my hopes for a substantial update on the state of Combat Mission 3 were dashed, and a lot of the announcements, aside from the Spanish Civil War and the new Flashpoint Campaign games, are kind of hit and miss depending on what you’re playing right now or what you’re looking for.
