The 15 Best RTS (Real-Time Strategy) Recommendations and Deals for the Steam Easter Sale

How Do I Choose The RTS (Real-Time Strategy) Games For The Steam Easter Sale?

Having already published two lists, one of the overall best strategy game deals on the Steam Easter Sale and another about the best Wargames, it’s time to dive deeper into the best RTS (Real-Time Strategy) deals and recommendations for this Steam Easter Sale. I picked a list of some of my favourite titles to try in the hopes this will help you discover some new and exciting games to play.

If you have any recommendations for me and other visitors of Strategy and Wargaming, please leave a comment below! Now, let’s get started with the best RTS deals this Easter.

15 – Total War: Medieval II- Definitive Edition

It’s hard to avoid putting Total War: Medieval II – Definitive Edition here, when we are talking about one of the best strategy games ever made and it costs less than a Starbucks beverage. If you’re a fan of the Medieval period and have a fascination for the intricacies of warfare and kingdom management after the fall of the Roman Empire, Total War: Medieval II is probably the only game that allows you to experience both of those aspects seamlessly. Hopefully, if we continue to buy this game almost 20 years after it came out, Creative Assembly will finally decide that it’s time to release Total War: Medieval III.

14 – Northgard

Are you a fan of minimalism? Are you a fan of Norse mythology? Are you a fan of cheap RTS games that are absolutely amazing? Then what you want to pick up is Northgard. You’ll lead a Viking clan striving to conquer a mysterious, newly discovered continent, where harsh winters, mythical creatures, and rival factions pose constant threats. It’s not a traditional RTS game, because in Northgard your main opponents aren’t necessarily other factions, but the environment. It’s an absolute labour of love that’s still being updated to this day.

13 – Diplomacy Is Not an Option

Here’s a new appearance! Diplomacy is Not an Option is a unique blend of city-building, tower defence, and real-time strategy that challenges you to survive relentless sieges while managing a medieval kingdom. Set in a war-torn fantasy world, players take on the role of a defiant lord who must fortify their settlement, gather resources, build armies, and defend against overwhelming waves of enemies. Since you’ll be fighting pretty much everything that moves, diplomacy is, in fact, not an option. If you like horde defence titles akin to They Are Billions and Age of Darkness: Final Stand, Diplomacy Is Not An Option might be something that interests you.

12 – WARNO

Eugen Systems has released quite several successful titles over the years, from the very underrated RUSE to the Wargame series of titles, and their World War 2 forrays with Steel Division, they’ve grown accustomed to digitising modern conflicts. That expertise shines through with WARNO, their latest, and I would argue a more complete and well-rounded experience. It’s a beautiful game, with a scope so massive it’s intimidating, but if you’re looking for that kind of experience, you’ll be entertained for hundreds of hours. If you’re a single-player gamer, the WARNO Army General dynamic campaign might be the turn-based Cold War fix you’re looking for. If you’re a multiplayer kind of guy, there’s a large community to play with and against, with active tournaments and a niche esports scene.

11 – Rise of Nations: Extended Edition

Here’s another classic for a fiver in this Steam Easter Sale, Rise of Nations: Extended Edition. Directly inspired by games like Age of Empires and Empire Earth, Rise of Nations manages to expertly build upon both formulas, allowing players to guide their nation through centuries (or millenials) of technological progress in RTS format. It had a very unique “territory control” system in place that put some limits on player expansion and more strategic considerations when deciding what to prioritize in military campaigns. Who doesn’t love the idea of having Hoplites fighting King Tiger tanks?
