50 – Panzer Strike
News about the announcement of Panzer Strike just came out a couple of days ago. Being developed by ISAK Team, Panzer Strike is setting out to be an “authentic RTS” with gameplay from the 2000s. Well, it certainly looks the part if you compare it to games like Blitzkrieg and Sudden Strike. It’s promising huge maps, thousands of units, and pure combat focus, with no base-building mechanics.
49 – Ancient Arenas: Chariots
Qvadriga was quite a hit when it came out in 2014. It was a unique, turn-based (or real-time) chariot racing simulator with quite a lot of depth to its systems. Of course, the thing that separates it from the crowd of other racing sims is its Roman quadriga setting. Despite being fairly well-received, Turnopia failed to capitalize on its setting and take its premise into a whole new dimension. That’s precisely what the folk behind Ancient Arenas: Chariots are attempting to do. Not a lot is known of it right now but it’s promising to be quite the spiritual successor to Qvadriga.
48 – Rise of Industry 2
The original Rise of Industry was a management/ tycoon affair set during the early 20th century, where you took to the economic stage as an up-and-coming industrialist. Rise of Industry’s sole DLC, 2130 took the series in a minor foray to the 22nd century, and now, 5 years after the release of RoI, Rise of Industry 2 is taking itself back to the 80s, set in the land of the brave and the free, as you work your way to turn your American dream into a reality.
47 – Capital Command
Hooded Horse is the reigning monarch of the strategy genre kingdom after deposing Paradox Interactive in 2024. Now, they have a hand on nearly every other strategy title ready to go live in the next couple of years, with Capital Command being one of them. A sandbox-y, space sim that puts players at the helm of custom-made warships.
46 – Fata Deum
God games are few and far between nowadays, so it’s always exciting when a new company shows up with the prospect of creating one. Fata Deum takes direct inspiration from the God games of yore, you can either be a benevolent God and help your pixel people prosper, or a malevolent one, and lead them on a path to debauchery, violence, sin, and demons. There’s a demo available, if you want to give it a try!
45 – Kriegsfront Tactics
Kriegsfront Tactics is a “turn-based mecha tactics RPG set in alternate 1970s Southeast Asia”. If this isn’t enough to turn your head around and say “Wait a minute, what the heck have I just read?”, then I don’t know what will. While the whole “manage a squad of mechs” is something that has been done to death by now, its PS1/PS2 era throwback graphics, the MGS-looking user interface, and the whole Southeast Asia setting were enough to pike my curiosity and earned it a spot in this list. You can play the prologue right now, by clicking this link.
44 – Commander: Europe at War
While this might be considered cheating, it’s still a new game, right? Matrix recently announced a 3D remake of the 2007 game Commander: Europe at War. The remake will improve the game’s AI, revamp the user interface, and add new units, and diplomacy systems. You’ll have six campaigns to play around with, from the North Atlantic to Western Russia. The graphics look smooth and soothing with its pastel color palette.
43 – Fragile Existence
Yet another Hooded Horse published title, Fragile Existence is a space real-time-strategy game where your job is to save humanity from extinction. It’s looking very similar to Planetary Annihilation. Establish your space colonies, grow an army, and fight big scary enemies, what more could a gamer want?
42 – Radio Commander: Pacific Campaign
When I interviewed the Radio Commander: Pacific Campaign team in December of 2022 I was expecting the game to be released sometime during 2023. Almost another year goes by and nothing of note comes out of it until a couple of weeks ago, when a demo was launched at the Steam Next Fest. Well, I played it, and I have enjoyed it, but I’ll need to see how the game does its naval component before passing any more judgment on it. I just hope it lives up to the expectations it set up.
41 – Nova Roma
If you love city-builders, 2025 is shaping up nicely to be a great year for you, just by looking at the games listed here. Nova Roma is being developed by Lion Shield and published by the ubiquitous Hooded Horse. In Nova Roma, you’ll lead a small band of citizens after the fall of Rome in their search for new lands in which to build a new (Nova) Rome. Establish yourself, build your economy, harness the power of nature, appease your Gods, establish your laws, and make your people happy. I’m interested to see how this one will shape up against all other titles in this list.
