Strategy and Wargaming News – 28th March – New Might and Magic Stormbinders Teased, Burden Of Command 2-Hour Interview, MicroProse Publishing Strategos

Hello! If you don’t follow any of my social media pages, I posted that my last Strategy and Wargaming News article reached 5,000 people, which is an amazing number for something so niche. I’m used to lists getting tens of thousands and even hundreds of thousands of views, but a news update? That was a new one. This week things have been a bit quieter, but we still have a new game from Slitherine called Stormbinders, Grit and Valor – 1949 release, a content update for Battle Brothers and a lot more.

Stormbinders Teased By Slitherine

A new turn-based strategy game called Stormbinders has been announced by the famous wargame publisher, Slitherine. The game is looking like it’s going to be very similar to the Might and Magic series of games, but we will find out more details about it on its deep dive, set to happen on the 10th of April,

Luke From Burden of Command Interviewed By Critical Moves

Me and Al from the Critical Moves Podcast had a two-hour long late-night talk with Luke, the leader of the leadership RPG set in World War 2, Burden of Command. In this long talk, we explore what makes his game stand out, and his relationship with History and Leadership, and we ask him some very though questions!

Getting into Burden of Command doesn’t need to be though, so you can use my 10 Tips To Help You Play and Enjoy Burden of Command when it comes out on April 8th.

MicroProse Exploring New Battleground With Strategos

It looks like Total War real-time battles might be having some competition soon with Strategos, a recently announced strategy game, to be published by MicroProse, and set to come out in 2025. If you want to know more about it, I did an exclusive interview with the team which you can read here.

Fight The Axis With Grit And Valor

Grit and Valor – 1949, a minimalist real-time strategy game with a rogue-lite twist set in an alternate universe where the Axis powers got their hands on powerful mechs just came out on the 26th of March and turns out it’s quite good. I have reviewed and have described it as being “It’s the kind of game that’s good, but not great, something you can boot up, play a couple of rounds and move on with your day, and feel good about it. Sometimes that’s good enough.”

Go Back To The Pacific Theatre With Strategic Command: World War 2 Latest DLC

Strategic Command: World War II – War in the Pacific is getting its first DLC, and it’s called Rise and Fall of an Empire. As the name implies, the focus of this downloadable content is going to be Japan, and their actions across the Second World War, with 6 campaigns that last from 1937 to 1945. The DLC is going to feature a hypothetical historically accurate scenario based on Operation Downfall, for the planned 1946 invasion of the Japanese mainland.

Unveiling The Veil Of Ashes

I came across Veil of Ashes last week, but I don’t quite remember whether it was from a Facebook post, a Steam update, or an article somewhere on any other website. Intrigued, I looked into it and the World War 1 steampunk-inspired title looks worthy of a wishlist to keep your eye on.

Battle Brothers Gets An Update 2 Years Later

The Overhype Team might have their hands full while working on their upcoming turn-based strategy title called MENACE, but they still found time to update their breakout hit, the now 8-year-old Battle Brothers, almost two years after its last update. The update has a couple of fixes here and there, but most importantly, this free update brings new content in the form of two new legendary locations to discover with unique new enemy types. If you want to access the new content and have an ongoing campaign, I’m afraid you’re going to have to start a new one, but given how hard Battle Brothers is, you were going to anyway.

Build A City In The World Of Kaiserpunk

Kaiserpunk came out not with a band, but with a whimper, on the 21st of March, only garnering 230 Steam reviews, only 68% of those being positive. Despite this lacklustre launch, the team is paying close attention to the community’s feedback and is already working on improving the game, focusing mainly on fixing performance issues, game balance, and UI/UX.

WARNO Gets Another Major Update And A New DLC

WARNO’s new updates are rolling out, and this is a big one. First, we have a new free map called Cliff. The Armory user interface was revisited and now has a new look that should help players to more easily find what they’re looking for. And last, but certainly not least, a third Nemesis DLC is out and it’s called Homefront and costs 4,99€. This new DLC features two new divisions: Warsaw Pact Soviet defenders of the 157-yaMotostrelkovaya Diviziya and the mixed troops of NATO’s US 6th Infantry Division (Light).

The Astra Militarum Gets New Reinforcements In Warhammer 40,000: Battlesector

One of the best Warhammer 40,000 games ever made is still getting updates, and this time, Warhammer 40,000 Battlesector added 2 new playable units for free: the iconic Cadian Sergeant and the Leman Russ Battle Tank for the Astra Militarum. The Sisters of Battle also received a massive overhaul.

The Australians And Afrikakorps Face Off In New Company of Heroes 3 DLC

The Company of Heroes 3 team keeps working on the game’s redemption arc by constantly adding new content, and most recently releasing a massive game-changing DLC to celebrate their 2nd anniversary. On March 26th they launched a new DLC called Stealth & Stronghold. This downloadable content features the British Forces Australian Defense and the Deutsches Afrikakorps Battlefield Espionage Battlegroups. The first is a defensive battlegroup with marksman and a new Bofors AA Emplacement. The second is mostly focused on the use of stealth and subterfuge to wreak havoc on the enemy lines by using the Goliath mine to ambush enemies, and the 250/3 Funkpanzerwagon to garner intel.
