1 – Tactical Breach Wizards
One of the best games of 2024, and developed by Suspicious Developments, Tactical Breach Wizards is a turn-based tactical game that blends high-stakes tactical decision-making with a comedic, special-ops fantasy premise where wands with silencers, guns that shoot people to revive them, and a machine-gun staff are just ordinary tools in the kit of spec-ops operatives. In my review, I called it a “nicely presented, with charming character design, set in a convoluted, but lighthearted world, and it has a fantastic presentation with its minimalist and colourful art style. A massive campaign with around 50 scenarios split between 16 missions, totalling 4 arcs, a steady introduction of new characters and abilities, and gut-busting one-liners that’ll have you crying with laughter, Tactical Breach Wizards should be your go-to indie strategy game of 2026.
Conclusion
Trends come and go, genres rise and fall, and these are the indie strategy titles that have shaped the direction of the entire scene. From the industrial obsession of Factorio to the razor-sharp tactical puzzles of Into the Breach, from the randomize cruelty of Darkest Dungeon to the emergent storytelling machine that is RimWorld, these indie titles prove that innovation rarely needs blockbuster budgets, and that success comes from the best ideas and core gameplay loops, not just pretty graphics and quick-time actions. More importantly, nearly all of these titles have expanded what we consider to be “strategy games.” It’s no longer just about armies on hexes or base-building for war. Strategy can be about logistics, psychology, traffic management, game development, mercenary bookkeeping, or funny wizards kicking down doors.
