Bolt Action Sneak Peak: How Slitherine Is Reimagining Combat in the Biggest WWII Tabletop Game in the World

Bolt Action: “No plan survives first contact with the enemy.”

Slitherine and Frag Games will be releasing their second Developer diary for the Bolt Action video game today, and given how many of you are interested in the game, I’m here to share some breaking news!

Slitherine was nice enough to tell me that the second Dev Diary is going to be all about the Order System. It’s by using these orders that players can execute their plans, and the 6 core options that each unit has are:

  • Fire;
  • Advance;
  • Run;
  • Ambush;
  • Rally;
  • Down;

These orders are lifted directly from the Bolt Action tabletop ruleset and form the basis from which players will be able to plan, execute, and adapt to an ever-evolving battlefield.

Digital Adaptation Done Right

What makes this particularly reassuring for long-time fans is that these Orders come directly from the original tabletop ruleset. The development team has made it clear: every major system in the PC adaptation aims to have a spiritual equivalent in the tabletop game.

A particularly interesting highlight is the recent visit to the Milan office by Alessio Cavatore, Lead Designer of the tabletop Bolt Action. Spending a full day rolling dice alongside the dev team, Cavatore shared insights into how and why the rules function as they do.

If you want to know more about Bolt Action, stay tuned, as the new dev diary will be released on 25th February at 16:00 CET.
