6 – Tabletop Tavern

I don’t think I have heard about Tabletop Tavern before researching this list (which means that the Steam Next Fest 2026 is doing its job perfectly!), and I found myself very interested in it. It’s a fast-paced RTS with a roguelike campaign (these are becoming quite the norm, aren’t they? Well, don’t mind me, I love my strategy roguelikes), where every run turns the game into a new adventure with new units, gear, and permanent unlocks that carry over to other campaigns. Pretty neat artstyle as well.
3 – Repterra

Repterra might be the most recent game on this list, but it has certainly made itself noticed by RTS players by having one of the craziest premises out there. The world has been overrun by dinosaurs, and it’s up to you, the player, to take it back and save humanity from extinction. This is a very similar experience to games like They Are Billions and Age of Darkness: Final Stand, where players have to build their cities, build the most insane defensive positions possible, and then hold off against insane odds. In the case of Repterra, the game can have up to 100.000 dinossaurs making a run for your base. Alongside regular humans manning the walls and towers, players can also tame and breed their own dinosaurs.
2 – Battleplan
I actually have a significant amount of time on Battleplan, and I have played it quite a lot recently for this Steam Next Fest. I think that the best way to describe this real-time tactics game/wargame from Slitherine would be to imagine the planning tools of Hearts of Iron 4, but isolated and expanded into its own game. Players must draw their orders on a map (there’s a wide variety of them), plan break-throughs, reserve locations, fallback positions, artillery bombardments, airstrikes, and plenty more. Then it’s up to their subordinate commanders to execute to the best of their abilities. It’s a different and unique experience, because I can’t recall another game that did something similar to this.
