10 Tips to Enjoy Historical Video Games the Most

1 – Relax, Enjoy and Have Fun

This is my favorite, and by far the best tip you can take from this article. While all of the previous ones are true and will massively help with your immersion, knowledge, and achieve success in your campaigns, at the end of the day, this is videogames we are talking about here, and videogames are supposed to be a way for players to relax and have fun. Don’t chase tactical perfection, don’t chase victory screens, don’t even chase your impressively long backlog of titles you bought in the hopes that one day you might play them. The truth is, you probably won’t.

Play whatever historical titles you really want to play right now, and whatever makes you happy. That might be 1999’s all-time classic Age of Empires 2, or might even be 2026’s Task Force Admiral, and all else in between. It doesn’t matter, as long as you’re happy and having fun. If you enjoy a game, embrace that, and play it until you get bored with it. If you never get bored, that’s awesome. Ignore the constant outside noise of the internet, opinions on social media, and even whatever a game reviewer or GOTY awards have to say. The only GOTY award that matters to you is your very own.

Conclusion

I’ve been wanting to put this together for years now, so I sincerely hope this article is of some use to you, because it would have given me a lot of help when I started out playing historical strategy games as a kid, and I had absolutely no idea how to begin or how to make the most of my experiences. Fortunately, you won’t have to stumble anymore as I have. If you want to check other lists similar to this one, you can do so here. If you have any more tips and tricks on how to make the most of the historical games we play, share them with everyone in the comments below.
