The Best Wargames For 2026

1 – Task Force Admiral

What can I say about Task Force Admiral that I haven’t said before? After playing its extensive demo, I called it “a next-generation wargame” that’s going to change people’s perception of scale, quality, and realism when it comes to what’s possible with wargames and a small team. It’s already 2026’s most anticipated naval wargame, and it’s going to become the definitive carrier command experience during World War 2 with such a level of detail that it will be unmatched for years to come. Built around the idea of real-time decision-making, reconnaissance uncertainty, and the high-stakes cat-and-mouse tension of Pacific naval warfare, it stands out for its commitment to historical detail without overwhelming players with micromanagement, which was one of the most surprising parts, because its really easy to just jump into the game an learn it without the need of a tutorial, but that’s because the game is so detailed, that there’s almost no abstraction involved, so everything is logic and intuitive. What makes it truly exciting is how it blends cinematic presentation with hardcore simulation design, letting players experience the fog of war, strike planning, and task force coordination in a way that feels like you’re in a movie. I’m certain that Task Force Admiral is going to be a revolutionary title, and it will change the genre in a major way in 2026, so you strategy fans will absolutely want to wishlist it.

  1. Did you see IL-2 Korea was announced? Dog fighting with early jets will be a blast

  2. Good list! I’m particularly looking forward to Carthage: Bellum Punicum and War in Spain 1936–39. I’m also keeping an eye on Strategos; I’m curious to see how that one turns out.

  3. War in Spain is an entirely new game engine. Not a reworked AE game engine.
I took AE as inspiration for how my game engine should look and work for game mechanics, but I have never seen even a single line of code of the original AE.
