Here’s What Happened At The Slitherine Next 2025 – 25th Anniversary

Everything You Need to Know About The Slitherine Next

The Slitherine Next is a proprietary show where the famous strategy games-focused company uses to unveil new products and update its fans. Since December isn’t usually the time for major announcements, I was expecting a bit of a chill show. Still, we got the exact opposite, with plenty of new announcements, some of which are really exciting, such as the new Bolt Action video game and Headquarters going to the Cold War.

Check out what happened during the Slitherine Next 2025 – 25th Anniversary down below, and if you missed the live stream and want to take a look at the full thing, you can rewatch it here.

Bolt Action Video Game

Let’s start with the one that certainly wasn’t on my bingo card. Slitherine is currently turning the world-famous tabletop wargame Bolt Action into a video game, and the trailer looks pretty nice. Instead of being a simple carry-over of the ruleset, the video game version is going to reimagine the tabletop systems to better fit its digital nature.

I’m very happy with the first look at the trailer because there are three things I’m positive about, and the first one is the high-quality models, the second is the colorful art style, and last, but certainly not least, the quality of the animations. You probably already heard me saying that I think you can tell a lot about the quality of a game during its trailers based on the animation quality, so seeing things looking this good on a 30-second trailer is reason to be excited.

Ah, and before you go on to the next news piece, I know what you’re wondering: is the game going to have an army painter mode? Yes, it will, go and wishlist Bolt Action.

Headquarters Will Take On The Cold War

Few games manage to be as accessible to new players as Headquarters: World War 2 was when it came out, in 2024, so it was quite nice to see that this courtesy will now be extended towards all of the soon-to-be players looking to dip their toes in the Cold War. That’s right, Headquarters: Cold War is finally going to be an easy-to-pick-up turn-based strategy game set in the Cold War, something very few games even attempt to do. In fact, I think it’s quite unique and can’t think of another game that does this, so I’m super excited for it. As someone who has always struggled with Cold War games, this might be a great entry title for me.

You’ll Be Able To Play Battleplan Soon

Battleplan, a new game built around the concept of taking the Hearts of Iron 4 planning tool and applying it to an operational level, is quite the fascinating take. Having played it myself, I was surprised by how well it’s being implemented and the potential it has to be something special. Now, you’ll be able to experience the game for yourself during the Steam Next Fest taking place from February 23rd until March 2nd.

Radio Commander Acquisition

Slitherine bought up Radio Commander, meaning that Radio Commander: Pacific ’41 is already going to have Slitherine’s hand as a publisher, and the game finally has a release window of Spring 2026. I did my interview with the team in 2022.

Nightmare Frontier Joins The Slitherine Line-Up Too

It looks like it’s Christmas at Slitherine, too, because not only have they acquired Radio Commander, but they have also bagged themselves Nightmare Frontier, a tactical extraction looter. While I never heard about it, the game looks interesting and I now I want to take a look at it: A single-player turn-based strategy game set during the early 1900s with roguelite elements sounds right up my alley.
