7 – Farthest Frontier
Riding the momentum of its recent 1.0 release, after a long stint in early access, Farthest Frontier is one of the most polished medieval city-building games you can play in 2025. A recently expanded tech tree and deeper survival mechanics were added for the final release, and the gameplay loop goes as expected for survival city-builders: Players must balance food production, disease control, trading, and villager wellbeing while shaping a handcrafted settlement that reacts to terrain, seasons, and resource scarcity. Its renewed popularity comes from years of incremental updates paying off at launch.
6 – Flashpoint Campaigns: Cold War
I’m very surprised to see Flashpoint Campaigns: Cold War trending on Steam, and even more surprised it’s near the middle of the list, alongside major releases like Europa Universalis and Anno. This hardcore operational wargame is the third of the Flashpoint Campaigns series, made famous by its deeply realistic simulation of Cold War-era mechanized combat. Players command companies and brigades across large real-world hex maps, issue orders in asynchronous WEGO turns, and navigate the fog of war with tools like electronic warfare, air assaults, and variable weather. It’s the biggest and most ambitious game in the series, with over 100 scenarios, and the largest number of nations and equipment ever seen in Flashpoint Campaigns. Have in mind that with this deep wargame, a steep but rewarding learning curve is sure to follow. If you’re a strategy fan who thrives on detailed warfare simulations, Flashpoint Campaigns: Cold War delivers an immersive and intellectually demanding experience that’s unmatched by any other wargame on the market.
5 – Whiskerwood
This month, Steam’s trending list is dominated by city-builders! Have a look at Whiskerwood, a charming city-builder where players lead a colony of mice living under the tax-heavy rule of their feline overlords. As the leading mouse, players will have to build settlements, automate complex production chains, explore new locations, and make sure that the ever-watching kitty-cats are happy. The game just launched on November 6, 2025, and despite its silly cat-versus-mouse premise, its strong suit is its simulation depth. If you’re the kind of player looking for a new adventure and enjoy the pressure, it comes not only from building a city and making sure its inhabitants are happy, but that your bosses are pleased as well, then Whiskerwood is certainly worth having a look at.
