10 Underrated Historical Strategy Games You Don’t Know About

1 – Ultimate General: Civil War

In the number one spot, I think I have to give it to Ultimate General: Civil War, because I don’t see people singing enough praises to it. Everybody talks about how great Sid Meyer’s Gettysburg is, how awesomely detailed the Scourge of War series on the American Civil War manages to be, but I very rarely see that kind of praise being bestowed on Ultimate General: Civil War. After the release of the equally amazing Ultimate General: Gettysburg, this second game from the creator of Total War: Darthmod is the most user-friendly, beautiful, and impressive recreation of the American Civil War as a whole. The game features a full-length campaign (interlocking battles, not a Total War campaign, mind you), an RPG system to manage your army and your forces, and then it all comes together into a very nice real-time strategy combat system that’s chock-full of depth and replayability. It’s one of my favorite strategy games ever made, so if you follow Strategy and Wargaming because you enjoy my recommendations, I’m sure you’ll have your fun with this one too!

There Are Still Plenty of Historical Gems Out There, So Let’s Share Them With Each Other

Even better than constantly discovering new games with Strategy and Wargaming is the fact that I can play and write about them, and get to know them very well, too! If you haven’t played any of these titles, you’re missing out on some absolute historical bangers, and I would highly advise you to wishlist most of them, or boot them up if you have them in your library, and have been postponing starting to learn them! From the first moments humans started to fight in organized formations, all the way to the conflicts of the 21st century, video games are the best way to experience the challenges our historical and current-day commanders have to face.

If you would like to support me with that, you can buy me a coffee for a dollar if you’re feeling generous. If you can’t, no worries, Strategy and Wargaming will always be free, and I’d love to have you around!
