The 10 Best Turn-Based Strategy Games To Wishlist In 2025

The Best Turn-Based Strategy Games Of 2025 and 2026 Are Coming!

The years 2025 and 2026 are shaping up to be monumental for fans of turn-based strategy games. Ever since the release of my beloved XCOM, the genre has been experiencing a never-ending renaissance, with developers pushing the boundaries of tactical combat, grand strategy, and rich storytelling by merging RPG elements into the genre. From grimdark sci-fi epics to classic high fantasy revivals, the sheer volume of high-quality titles on the horizon is staggering. With so many options, it can be hard to know which games deserve your attention. That’s why I’ve compiled this definitive guide: The 10 Best Turn-Based Strategy Games To Wishlist In 2025.

10 – Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy

Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader was a massive success and quickly rose up through the ranks to become one of the franchise’s most beloved titles, and one of the best CRPGs ever made. Now, the team that made it is coming back with Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, another highly anticipated turn-based CRPG set in the grimdark 40K universe. Unlike games focused on large-scale combat, this title puts you in the boots of an Inquisitor, leading a small, elite warband on a morally gray mission to uncover conspiracies and root out heresy. The game doesn’t have a release date yet, but from the looks of the trailer above and the concept art (which shows Chaos Space Marines and Eldar), the game is shaping up to be absolutely amazing. With its focus on deep, branching narratives and tactical turn-based combat, this game is a must-wishlist for fans of story-rich RPGs and the Warhammer franchise.

9 – Disciples: Domination

Man, dark fantasy fans are going to be eating well when it comes to turn-based strategy games, aren’t they? First, we have Dark Heresy, now the return of the Disciples series with Disciples: Domination, an upcoming title from Artefacts Studio that builds upon the foundation of Disciples: Liberation. Set 15 years after the original game, you’ll once again take on the role of Queen Avyanna, this time tasked with holding a crumbling kingdom together in a world on the brink of chaos. The game promises dark and mature themes, grim and branching narratives, a more refined strategic experience, faster tactical combat, and real-time world exploration, making it a top contender for fans of dark fantasy and turn-based strategy.

8 – Blightstone

Another dark fantasy strategy game? Looks like we have a theme going on here! Well, this one is for those who crave a punishing and deeply strategic experience, similar to games like Battle Brothers. If you’re like that, Blightstone is the game to keep an eye on in 2025, as it’s shaping up to become an exciting turn-based roguelike. Developed by Unfinished Pixel, this dark fantasy RPG combines brutal, grid-free combat with a heavy emphasis on environmental interactions and meta-progression, meaning that every run is going to bring up unique challenges, but with every death and every failed attempt, you will still be improving, getting better, and stronger. Your job is to deliver the Earthglass Crystal to destroy the Blightstone itself. There’s a demo available right now on the game’s Steam page for you to see if this one is worth a place on your wishlist. It certainly is on mine!

  1. I know you weren’t born when it was released, but at least do some research. Final Fantasy Tactics DID NOT release on any Nintendo system, at any point in time.

    1. I was, but you are right, I wrote nintendo and meant playstation!

    2. Ok but yes it did. Just the titles were slightly changed

  3. Charles Shields Avatar

We didn’t put Super Robot Wars Y. You guys have no love fore the visuals and it’s the perfect combination of strategy RPG and anime robots. You have problems. Also, the only system to feature the original FFT and not a remake is PS1. Gameboy advance and NDS got sequels and PSVita and cell phones got the War of the Lions remake

  4. The option to choose between enhanced and classic versions shows real respect for both new players and veterans. animasi

  5. […] So, with all that being said, where do I think the game could improve? As of right now, without the meta-layer, it’s hard to see how foundational mechanics like each of the squad leaders’ personalities will play a role, and how progression is going to impact my overall enjoyment of the title. From a purely tactical standpoint, I think MENACE is almost right on point, with solid mechanics, fun and addictive gameplay, and it managed to fuel my desire for more. In fact, I’m currently traveling as this article is going live, and this MENACE demo is going to be my sole entertainment for the rest of the week. From what I have seen, MENACE has certainly won its spot on my 10 Best Turn-Based Strategy Games To Wishlist In 2025. […]
