The 25 Most Wishlisted Strategy Games Of 2025

5 – Viking City Builder

Viking City Builder is quite the looker! As a Viking chieftain, you’ve just landed in central Europe, and it’s time to carve out a new home for you and your own. The game emphasizes resource management, requiring you to establish efficient production chains for food, materials, and weapons to sustain your growing population and empower your warriors. Survival is key, as you’ll face not only the challenges of hostile wildlife and roaming bandits but also the brutal realities of harsh winters, demanding careful stockpiling and strategic planning. Beyond mere defense, players will train fierce Viking warriors and send them to pillage neighboring villages. I want to know more about it, and with the game being in active development, I’m sure we will start getting a drip feed of news rather soon.

4 – Slay The Spire 2

I can already imagine some of you rolling your eyes at my decision to include Slay the Spire 2 into this list. I love the first game and have great memories of playing it during some of the best vacations in my life, so I want to include it, and this is my list, so tell me in the comments if you disagree with me! This highly anticipated sequel to the genre-defining roguelike deckbuilder is going to build upon its acclaimed predecessor with fresh mechanics, new characters, and a fully updated visual style. Set 1,000 years after the original, the Spire has reawakened, and players will once again craft unique decks on their ascent, encountering a plethora of bizarre creatures, challenging events, and powerful relics. The game introduces new slayers, alongside the returning Ironclad and Silent with redesigned card pools and mechanics, alongside a mysterious new character, The Necrobinder, who brings unique abilities like a companion. A key new feature is the “Enchantment” system, allowing players to apply persistent buffs or debuffs to cards throughout a run, introducing a new layer of risk and reward to deck customization. I just want it to finally come out! Please!

3 – Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era

Two Ubisoft titles being in here certainly wasn’t on my bucket list for 2025, but here we are. They have finally decided that the good old Heroes of Might and Magic series was worth paying attention to, and the players are responding in kind, with Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era occupying the third place of the most wishlisted games of 2025. This much-anticipated prequel brings the classic turn-based fantasy strategy series back to its roots. Set hundreds of years before the original games, it transports players to the continent of Jadame on the world of Enroth, a setting previously only hinted at in the lore. Commanders will embark on a non-linear campaign, navigating a world on the brink of war as a new, demonic insectoid faction known as the Hive threatens to engulf everything.

The game faithfully recreates the beloved Heroes of Might and Magic formula, blending exploration of a vibrant adventure map with strategic city-building and deep turn-based combat on a hexagonal grid.

2 – Falling Frontier

Falling Frontier is Hooded Horse’s most fascinating title, and it’s set to come out later in 2025. This anticipated sci-fi real-time strategy places a strong emphasis on intel, logistics, and detailed ship design in a vast, procedurally generated star system. In my last article about it I predicted that the game is probably going to play a lot like Sins of a Solar Empire 2, but with a stronger focus on tactical combat, offering a very unique experience you can’t find anywhere else. I’m curious, however, as to the way logistics are going to play a role in a game focusing on space tactical combat, but it’s very intriguing indeed. Players lead an expeditionary force that has just established its first spaceport, only to discover they are not alone.

Combat is a highlight, featuring physically simulated projectiles where shots can ricochet or hit unintended targets, and individual ship subsystems can be damaged or destroyed, leading to dynamic engagements. Beyond tactical battles, the true challenge lies in managing complex logistical networks. Players must build and defend supply depots, refineries, and shipyards, understanding that a disrupted supply chain can cripple even the strongest fleet.

1 – Broken Arrow

Here we are! The number one most wishlisted strategy game at the moment is Broken Arrow, Slitherine’s most ambitious title ever. This is going to be a large-scale real-time strategy (RTS) and tactics game that immerses players in modern warfare, focusing on combined arms operations and deep unit customization.

Featuring American and Russian factions, each with multiple specializations like the United States Marine Corps, Armored Brigade, Airborne Forces, and Special Operations, the game offers a wide array of tactical possibilities when players combine two of these specializations. Broken Arrow closely follows the formula laid out by Wargame, WARNO, and Steel Division games, but expands and improves on literally every aspect.

Players can deploy troops and vehicles via land, air, and sea, utilizing paratroopers and helicopters for rapid assaults, heavy tanks for breakthroughs, and artillery and tactical missiles for long-range support. A standout aspect is the extensive unit customization, allowing players to modify over 300 realistic military units with different weapons, armor, and utility packages, leading to more than 1500 unique combinations. Battles unfold across large, realistic urban battlefields, emphasizing strategic positioning, flanking maneuvers, and the crucial role of logistics, with supply trucks essential for maintaining combat readiness. Broken Arrow also has a compelling and massive single-player campaign.

The Strategic Horizon: A Look Ahead

As we’ve explored the diverse landscape of the most wishlisted strategy games on Steam, it’s clear the genre is pushing boundaries in exciting ways, but players know what they want, and the answer is clearly even more real-time strategy (RTS), city-builders and turn-based strategy games. They also want the return of beloved franchises but with ambitious new mechanics. The anticipation surrounding these games speaks volumes about the enduring appeal of strategy games and the desire for complex, rewarding experiences. Whether you’re a seasoned grand strategist, a tactical commander, or a budding city planner, the future of strategy gaming looks incredibly bright, with countless hours of thoughtful gameplay on the horizon.

Anvil Empires being on this list is a big reach, doesn’t really seem like a strategy game

    1. Well, I agree with you, to be fair

most of these are garbo lmk when you have a real list like stronghold, C&C, or even any AOE spin offs would be better than this list….do better

RTS and turn base are completely different and not really comparable.
Keeping the two separate would make more sense.

      2. They are still strategy games,m

  3. Is Metropolisim still in development? I’d love another in-depth city builder on the likes of W&R but the last dev update for it is 6 years old.
