The 20 Best Wargames Recommendations and Deals for the Steam Easter Sale

How Do I Choose The Best Wargames For The Steam Easter Sale?

What kind of strategy and Wargaming website would I have been if I had forgotten the latter during this most important and prestigious event known as the Steam Easter Sale?

All jokes aside, I’ve already compiled a 25 list of the best strategy games you can pick up, and a couple of wargames already made their appearance there, so you can also give it a look for a couple more recommendations.

How do I pick what games to suggest to you? Well, it’s simple, really: I compile a list of games off the top of my head that I think you can enjoy, and then I try and create a mix of tactical, operational and strategic from different eras, so there’s something for everyone. If you have any suggestions or you would like to let me and other visitors know about some great deals, please leave a comment down below!

20 – Command: Modern Operations

I still think that Command: Modern Operations is the ultimate wargame. Widely regarded as the most comprehensive and realistic modern warfare simulation game available, offering unparalleled depth in modelling post-World War II naval and air military conflicts at both tactical and operational levels, particularly. Boasting a massive equipment database with around 70,000 entries, many consider it alone worth the game’s premium price. Command: Modern Operations is not just a game—it’s the commercial counterpart of Command Professional Edition, a simulation tool actively used by elite military organizations such as the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, the Royal Navy, and the Luftwaffe.

19 – Field of Glory II

My love for Field of Glory II and Field of Glory II: Medieval is widely known. I think it’s the best and most authentic representation of pre-musket warfare to have ever been put to code. While I have previously endorsed Field of Glory II: Medieval in the past, it’s time to give its older brother some spotlight time: It’s a turn-based strategy game that brings the epic battles of ancient warfare to life with remarkable depth and tactical precision, allowing players to command historically accurate armies—from Romans and Greeks to Persians, Gauls, and beyond—across beautifully rendered battlefields. Field of Glory II strikes a perfect balance between accessibility and historical authenticity.

18 – Scramble: Battle of Britain

What a unique title Scramble: Battle of Britain turned out to be. A turn-based tactical dogfighting game that took many by surprise, yet managed to earn praise from both flying aces and wargamers alike. Set during the iconic Battle of Britain, it puts players in command of a flight squadron, where every turn lasts for a couple of seconds, and you must carefully plan manoeuvres turning, climbing, diving, or firing—before watching them play out against your opponent. Unlike traditional flight simulators where decisions are made instinctively in real time, Scramble offers the opportunity to pause, strategize, and outthink your enemy with each calculated move.

17 – Battle Academy 2: Eastern Front

Have I ever written a best wargames list without mentioning Battle Academy 2: Eastern Front? I don’t think so. Despite having some competition in the accessibility department with games like Headquarters: World War 2 and The Troop, I still think that If you’re new to wargaming and looking for the perfect starting point, Battle Academy is the most beginner-friendly wargame you can find. Frequently available on Steam at a bargain price, it’s an ideal entry-level title that deserves a place in every newcomer’s library. Battle Academy features a wide variety of units—infantry, tanks, artillery, and aircraft, and a massive amount of content that’ll keep you entertained for months if not years to come. There’s also a battle generator, in case you run out of missions.

16 – Cauldrons of War – Stalingrad

Cauldrons of War – Stalingrad is a unique and fast-paced World War II turn-based strategy game that offers a refreshing alternative to complex grand strategy titles like War In The East 2 and Hearts of Iron IV. It’s a game designed for players who want a quick engaging WW2 experience without diving into the overwhelming depth of the previously mentioned titles. The best part is that it manages to blend high-level decision-making with light battle management in ways that are fun, replayable, and engaging. Described as a “turn-based strategic wargame you will launch whenever you want your WW2 shot but don’t have time for a monster strategy game,” Cauldrons of War delivers the thrill of commanding from Berlin or Moscow without the burden of excessive micromanagement. Maybe some World War 2 leaders could have learned a thing or two by playing this and not controlling individual units.
